2020 Halliday Wine Companion Awards
Last night, the Halliday Wine Companion Awards saw the crowning of some of the Australian wine industry’s brightest stars. These feature in the 2020 Halliday Wine Companion guide that’s on sale today.
The awards are the result of hundreds of hours spent tasting nearly 9000 wines by James Halliday and his team. Among the honours are Wine of the Year, Best New Winery, Winemaker of the Year, Best Value Winery, Dark Horse of the Year, Winery of the Year and the best wines by variety.
Wise Wine was awarded 5 Stars recognising the consistent high quality of the wine produced by winemakers Andrew Sidell and Matt Buchan, under the tutelage of consultant Larry Cherubino.

The West Australian newspaper’s wine critic, Ray Jordan’s annual listing of his Top 100 Red wines is eagerly waited by wine lovers everywhere. Ray sips and slurps his way through 600 red wines from across Australia to whittle the field down to his Top 100 reds across several price categories and awards two major awards.
So today’s announcement of the Top 100 wines in the West Australian newspaper is especially exciting.
Ray awarded the 2018 Wise Sea Urchin Shiraz Best Wine Under $15 and Best Value Wine overall. It’s recognition for the Sea Urchin range that tries to consistently over-deliver on quality and value for money.
Rays comments regarding our 2018 Sea Urchin Shiraz are:
One of the best under this label I have tasted. A real bonus to be getting it at less than $15. Love the generous soft and plush palate profile. Seems to be some mighty good fruit in here. Sensational value if you can get it cheaper. Ray Jordan 93/100
High praise indeed, but wait there is even more great news…
The 2016 Leaf Series Cabernet Sauvignon is featured in the Top 100 Red wines $15 to $20 category. Rays comments are: “Sourced from Margaret River this is a classy cabernet with lifted perfumes of cherry and violets. Deep dark fruits on the palate. Excellent wine with a degree of polish.” Ray Jordan 92/100
