Thursday 22 July is International Shiraz Day – Shiraz’s day to shine
Shiraz extreme makeover – Wise style
Our historic Mazza Shiraz Block greets visitors to the Wise Estate as they first enter the property. These well established Shiraz vines, planted by the late Jim Mazza in 1986, have recently had a makeover. We are replacing the original Open Lyre trellis system with the more manageable Vertical Shoot Position (VSP) trellis.
From the road this looks like an extreme process with the 35 year old vines’ cordons being pruned back their trunks. But the vines are resilient and will recover quickly and be bearing even better Shiraz fruit for the 2023 vintage.
Which favourite Australian grape now has it’s own Day?
Speaking of Shiraz, it seems there is alway a special wine day to celebrate and Thursday 22 July is International Shiraz Day – Shiraz’s day to shine.
There is no wine variety more synonymous with Australia than Shiraz (or Syrah, as it’s sometimes called). It’s a staple at Cellar Doors, our greatest wine export and most widely planted grape. Whether you’re after an easy drinking red, something special to pair with dinner, or a sparkling red to share at your Christmas in July – there’s a style of shiraz to suit.
